Another conference, another badge...

except this really was NOT just another conference!

This is when i realised:
  • I am in Thailand!
  • AIESEC in Thailand is very different to AIESEC in CH
  • AIESEC members here are very different
  • That means Rob's sessions here need to be different
  • Rob has some work to do to improve
  • It's ok to not be perfect, people don't think less of you for it
  • It's unfair to expect people to understand 100% of what you want to tell them

Funny, in the next 2 weeks i will be telling a whole new generation about how AIESEC conferences are a unique learning environment. If only i could have captured the thoughts going through my head this weekend, into a kind of psychic diary, people would be queueing up to join! Watching people gain in confidence so they were comfortable to share their hopes and fears in front of 25 other people, hearing our external speakers say they were impressed with the attitude of the delegates, seeing so many ppl crying in closing plenary. Just wonderful. As usual you'll have to wait for pictures until someone emails some to me...

Of course there were problems to overcome - not least losing my voice halfway through the 1st day!!! Never happened before, hopefully never will again... Still my last year's team will be wincing at this because, as per usual, Rob was planning a last-minute cat-pull and didn't really have written session outlines... On top of that there was the awful sound system (again!) terrible food, and an OC where the people who were supposed to do the work did not, but were rescued by a bunch of hard-working EB members going wayyyyyyyy beyond the call of duty (thank you Off, Pang & Sine)

Oh, and i realised that working right through the night just before a conference starts is a baaaad idea! I hope it will be worth it when the refreshed AIESEC Thailand website goes live later this week. Watch this space...

Hey Rob

Good to hear you seemed to have a good conference despite some challenges!

Reading through your post, made me remember other nights we worked through in the past- do you remember the printing invoices story before election days for example ? - So some things NEVER seem to change ..:-) But it's somewhat comforting that I'm not the only one that faces challenges with time allocation ;-)

Big hugs and wish me luck for Malta, Caro

Robster, I miss you and your cat-pulls!
hope you managed to catch up some sleep and found your voice ;)

... and there is no conference like another - all of them are very special! It just that you build on your previous experience and inject it into each conference with the hope to make it better and even more special..
Trust me, I know what I am talking about

sending you a big hug

ROB...

Cats??? Tsk tsk tsk... well, you know that last year's training has made me an excellent cat-puller as well. Been using this #1 skill here quite a bit.

I want to hear about you know what and how you are and all! been thinking about you a lot!!!
